Since 2 March 2026 Lebanon has been at war again, with Israel invading parts of the country in renewed fighting against Hezbollah that has killed thousands and displaced over a million people. The war interrupted a fragile recovery that began with Aoun's election and Salam's reform government in early 2025 after years of presidential vacuum. The state is still insolvent from the 2019 financial collapse, among the worst recorded anywhere.
